Square DanciNg
Square dancing is an American folk dance that mostly cowboys do. It's a dance where there is four couples that dance on a square. That's where the name comes from. The dance can be easy then complicated and it has calls. If the person in charge calls a move you have to do it. It involves lots of practice because my group messed up especially one didn't want to do anything at all. In this essay I'm going to talk about square dancing.
Whem I heard and saw square dancing, I was like why do I have to do this like it's not going to benefit in my life. But in times it's kind of fun but stressful. The first move we learned is to circle left. That's when everyone will join hands and walk in circle yo the left. If the caller says right like circle right you do the same thing but you circle to the right. Then when you go back to your spot which is called home the caller is going to do another call like do si do. That's when te couple will turn around the partner fully. They will go to each others right shoulder. Then there is the corner which is the person in your other side like right or left from you. The next step is called the promenade which is when you grab your corners left forearm and circle around the partner and go home. Then there is the right and left grand which is when you grab your partners and pull them gently behind you and do that to the next person but with your left and do the same. Do that pattern until you go home.
Another call is the allemade which is when you grab your partners opposite hand and circle right with the others partners. Those are the main calls that I know. But the Texas Star is very hard and has different calls which is complicated. One is when the girls go in the middle and give a high five to the girl in the right and left. Also when you have to swing your partner like just hold them like when you dance banda and go in a circle once. Also there is couple numbers like the one facing west is couple 1, the kne that facing couple 1 is couple 3. The one that is facing south is couple 4 and the opposite is couple 2. That is mostly what I know from square dancing. Thank you for reading.
